Starting in June Gear West Bike and Triathlon will be changing our name and adding to our product mix. Over the next 2 months we will be stocking up on enough leotards, split sole slippers and leg warmers to keep even the most discriminating ballet aficionado geared up. And in June we will officially be known as “Gear West Bike, Triathlon, and Ballet”.
When asked about this decision, Gear West Bike and Triathlon owner Kevin O’Connor had this to say:
“I think we can all agree that triathlon and biking are just fads. We really needed to get into an industry that is here to stay, and ballet is that industry. Anybody who knows us will not be surprised by this decision, as we all clearly have a passion for ballet. In fact on most weekdays you’ll find us coming in to work early to practice our pirouette’s, pointe work and grand jete. It’s really not that far of a leap from cycling and triathlon if you think about it. Tight clothing, high speed turns, special shoes, expressing yourself artistically through dynamic movement…. OK, that last one was a stretch but you get the point”.
Changes you will see at the store over the next few weeks will be a complete renovation to change the current “tri room” into a professional grade dance studio. Triathlon bikes and equipment will be situated in a small corner on the opposite side of the building. Our service department will undergo a total makeover with most of the bike stands being replaced with sewing machines and work tables. Our head mechanic Jared is up for the challenge of focusing on clothing alterations in lieu of bike repair;
“I’m really excited about this change. I’ve always carried this hidden passion for creating and altering beautiful wardrobe ensembles, and this will finally give me the opportunity to do so. Plus, no more greasy hands…. my wife is going to love it.”
Over the course of the next few years the plan is to entirely phase out the bike and triathlon offerings and focus entirely on being the best ballet shop in the Midwest. A lofty goal, but we’re up for the challenge.
Oh, and happy April Fools Day!
